Sketching in the Park

A Saturday morning spent sketching in Veteran's Park,
Arlington, Texas.  Several artists met and enjoyed the
cool breeze off the duck pond and sketched ducks,
the walking path, trees and foliage in the park.
Those who came out to sketch were Cindy, Sharon,
Phil and myself. Pictured below are Barbara, Vern, Cliff,
  Nancy and Suzanne.

Tina Bohlman Workshop at Fort Worth Woman's Club

Ginger Jar

Lemons
5x7
Watercolor

Today was the first day of a three day workshop at
the Fort Worth Woman's Club.  Our instructor is
Tina Bohlman, a well know watercolorist from
Waxahachie, Texas.  Tina is an accomplished oil painter
as well.  Kathline McKinney, the workshop chairman had
several still life settings around the room.  The one I chose had
a ginger jar that had been her mother's.
We drew thumbnail sketches for value studies then painted
our still life paintings.  Great time.  Looking forward to more painting
with Tina. Vist again soon to see more paintings from the workshop.

There is a beautiful Japanese Tulip Tree outside the window at the Fort Worth
Woman's Club where I teach watercolor classes.  Every spring we are
amazed at the beautiful blooms on this tree before any leaves appear
on the tree.  The color of these blossoms are rose, pink and white.
God's color pallette in the spring is breathtaking!!!!

Paintings with Plastic Wrap Texture

Both my Woman's Club Watercolor Classes and
The Upstairs Gallery Watercolor Classes have been
experimenting with watercolor and plastic wrap to
create unusual textures.  Some of the textures
created look like trees in a forest, some ocean waves and
others like cliffs in a landscape.
The following are a few of my demo paintings
painted in classes this past week.

"Aspen Forest"

"Ocean Waves"

TIE PURSES, "CP" Collection

  TIE PURSES, "CP" Collection

These small hand bags are made out of neck ties that were
given to me by my step dad, or what I called him, "bonus pop", CP.
Each purse is made out of three ties. The tie tips of two
and the small end of another tie connects them.  The strap is made from
one of the ties that was used. These are great fun to make. The
hardest part is cutting up a pretty silk tie.
A great project for recycling neck ties.

Botanic Garden Statue, Spring

A Group of Plein Air Painters met at the
Fort Worth Botanic Gardens early Wednesday morning to
paint and sketch in the cooler temperature.
I decided to sketch this statue of a child holding a bird's nest
with three baby birds in it.
As I was drawing, one of the gardeners was watching and was
so excited to see painters painting and drawing in the gardens she takes care of.
Gardener Renea told me that she named this statue "Spring". There
are four statues along the path and she calls them the Four Seasons.
It was so peaceful with a little breeze and  relatively cool
in the shade of the trees.

Thanks to Doug, a painter and sculptor who contacts the group
about our plein air outings.

River Legacy Park Pigeon

The Parks Mall of Arlington, Texas donated  white plaster pigeons that are
being taken down due to renovation of the mall.  The Parks Mall donated the pigeons
to River Legacy Park for an auction/fundraiser in the fall, November 9, 2013.
The pigeons will be painted by artists in the area who are also donating their
time to paint the pigeons.  This is my contribution.  I put gold leaf on the wings and head
then painted iridescent colors on the pigeon and perched him on a rock with
gold leaf flecks in it.

Wednesday Watercolor Classes

Simply Watercolor!

Wednesday Watercolor Classes
The Upstairs Art Gallery  Arlington, Texas
We painted wet into wet washes for the background around
the white geese,  simple wet washes into the bodies leaving
the white of the paper for the highlights and finishing with
the beak, eyes and webbed feet, a few grass strokes and that was it.
Our project for the day was bright, colorful and loose.
Inspired by an artist on Pinterest.
Everyone did a fantastic job.  I hope to have pictures of
student work next week to post.

It is fun to paint wearable art.  These are inexpensive tennis shoes I
purchased at Wallmart.  A coat of gesso on the toes and a coat of
yellow acrylic paint. Bird and branch design painted on and polka dots
added.  Whala, cute shoes.  I am going to scotch guard before wearing them.
