Garden Party Demo

GARDEN PARTY DEMO

12" x 12" Acrylic on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

I was invited to paint during a garden party at a lovely home in Southlake, Texas.
The Arts League, which is an arm of The Arts Council of Northeast Tarrant County
sponsored the garden party along with a fundraiser silent auction including a variety
of donated baskets filled with wonderful items.
The funds raised are going to a summer art program for children.
During the first half, guests had refreshments,
visited and listened to a string quartet play beautiful music
while they bid on the silent auction items.  During this time I painted the
floral above while some of the ladies watched. I donated the painting to the
auction and at the end of the party the painting was auctioned off in a live auction. It went to
the highest bidder for $350.
What fun it was painting in such pretty surroundings while violins played in the background.

 GERBER DAISY
6" x 6"
Acrylic on Canvas

The painting of the this single Gerber Daisy was done from the centerpiece
of flowers on the serving table at the Garden Party.
I gave it to the hostess who had graciously offered her home for the party.

A Paint Out in Acton, Texas

The "Doug Club"  Paint out group met
in Acton, Texas close to Granbury at one of the group's property full
of interesting farm equipment and unique painting
subjects and a pond with a boat.  The May day was gorgeous, sunny with a
little breeze.  We all picked our spots and set up and got started painting
I was fortunate to have my husband, Phil, join me as he usually goes
to play golf on Saturdays. It was a fun day painting, meeting a
group of outdoor painters from Dallas, seeing artist friends and enjoying the beautiful
scenery and weather.

"The Red Tractor"
6" x 6" Acrylic on Canvas

Here's Doug, our leader.  He is so good to notify
the artists about paint outs at interesting locations.

The Red Tractor was a favorite subject!

A lazy summer day!

Hope you had a good weekend and a Happy Mother's Day!
Come back again soon.

CHRISTMAS FUN!

FRIENDS AND CHRISTMAS FUN DAY!
Two of my creative friends, Patty and Janet, and I got together
for a Creative Play Day this week.
We cut and pasted, stamped and glittered all day long.
Patty made a delicious lunch of corn chowder and I brought
Jiffy corn bread, fruit and cookies for dessert.
Here are some Christmas gift tags I made with the
the inspiration of my creative buddies.
I decided to hang the tags on my tree since
they were so festive!

Visit again soon to see more art projects and paintings.

"TEXAS LONGHORN" by Margie Whittington

See the progression of this painting in reverse order
Photo No. 1, Finished Painting
Photo No. 2, Second Phase of Painting
Photo No. 3, First Phase of Painting

"TEXAS LONGHORN"
24" X 30"
Acrylic on Wrapped Canvas
Finished Painting
See the progression of this painting below.
In this last pase of the painting process, I strengthened
the colors on the steer, paid attention to the details on the
steer's head and patterns on his hide.  Also, refined the
grassy area with some light grasses and darkened the
tree behind the steer.

In the second phase of the longhorn painting (see the first phase below)
I painted the dark grass area and the tree behind the steer.
Then I started painting and developing the steer, the face, horns
and the patterns on the steer's hide.  Ending with the painting above.

In the first phase of this painting, I drew the longhorn steer. After painting
the sky blue, I decided to put some texture in the sky and surrounding the
steer.  Then I painted a thin wash of quinacradome gold over the background.
I developed some of the dark patterns on the steer. The photo preceding this one shows
the second phase of the longhorn painting.
