KAYE FRANKLIN OIL PAINTING WORKSHOP
July 20,21,22, 2011
Lake Granbury Art Association
http://www.granburyart.org/

I thoroughly enjoyed a three day workshop with  master artist and teacher,
Kaye Franklin http://www.kfranklinstudio.com/Artist.htm
from Grahm, Texas.  She included florals and landscapes in oil and also
a floral pastel in her daily demos.  All were very informative. She gave individual
instruction as well. I also got to stay at my good friend's home who is an excellent
oil painter, Joyce Thomas http://thomasjoyce.blogspot.com/  .
We enjoyed visiting and taking the workshop together.
Other artist friends were there, Sheri Jones http://www.sheriart.blogspot.com/ ,
Beth Pritchard, and Diana Littlejohn and new
artists friends were made.  A great three days of painting.  Hope you enjoyed
viewing the paintings above that I completed in the workshop.
These paintings and others are on my gallery page on
Daily Paintworks with details and pricing.

A Paint Out in Acton, Texas

The "Doug Club"  Paint out group met
in Acton, Texas close to Granbury at one of the group's property full
of interesting farm equipment and unique painting
subjects and a pond with a boat.  The May day was gorgeous, sunny with a
little breeze.  We all picked our spots and set up and got started painting
I was fortunate to have my husband, Phil, join me as he usually goes
to play golf on Saturdays. It was a fun day painting, meeting a
group of outdoor painters from Dallas, seeing artist friends and enjoying the beautiful
scenery and weather.

Here's Doug, our leader.  He is so good to notify
the artists about paint outs at interesting locations.

The Red Tractor was a favorite subject!

A lazy summer day!

Hope you had a good weekend and a Happy Mother's Day!
Come back again soon.

Painters In Plein Air-Camp Fire USA 2010

      Camp Fire USA sponsored an
invitational plein air paint out for 29 Texas Artists.
This was a four day paint out.  Thursday, Oct. 14 thru
Saturday, Oct. 17. The artists could paint paintings of locations in
the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens or the Japanese Gardens.
Each artist then donated one of their finished paintings to
Camp Fire USA for a silent auction. Awards and the auction were at a
Champagne and Jazz Brunch on Sunday after the Quick Draw Paint
on Sunday morning from 9 am to 11:30 am.
The Quick Draw paintings done by each artist was also donated to
the silent auction to raise funds for CF USA.

The weather during the paint out was wonderful.
Cool mornings, sunshine and warm afternoons.
An artist dream, to sit or stand and paint for four days.
I met so many talented artists, some I already knew
 and enjoyed every day.

I gained a new appreciation for Camp Fire USA and
their endeavors to help children of the community.  It
is a great organization working to help
children and develop youth into strong leaders .
The Paint Out Committee and Camp Fire USA staff
did such a terrific job helping the artists,
organizing the paint out and planning the luncheon.
 I was impressed on
so many levels with Camp Fire USA.

The picture of the painting below is of
my donation to the plein air painting of the paint out.

" IN CONCERT "

24" x 30"

Oil on Canvas

Painted by Margie Whittington

A friend from high school which has been
forty+ years ago, asked me to do this portrait of
her when she was twelve years old at a piano recital.
The photo that the painting was done from was a black and
white with no color and some very dark areas.
She described the colors and the details of the photo and
this is what I painted.

It was a challenge and I am hoping my friend will be pleased
with the finished portrait.
Shhhh, she hasn't seen it yet. Her birthday is in August and I
think she has given up on me ever getting it finished.

A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE !
