Going to Washington

MARIE-JO GOES TO WASHINGTON

This post and the two following posts are pictures from
our Wednesday Afternoon Watercolor Class at
the Upstairs Gallery in Arlington, Texas.

Marie-Jo is a member of our Wednesday afternoon
watercolor class. She along with Corinne and
Claudine were our "French Connection".
All three are from France and have been
attending class at the Upstairs Gallery for
quite some time. They entertain us with their
comments and constant conversation in their
native language French. We have no idea
what they are saying but we know
it is all good (we hope).  Corinne moved a couple of
years ago to South (or maybe North) Carolina. We still hear from her
through emails and via Claudine. Now Marie-Jo is moving to
Washington DC for a year and then back to France.

We are going to miss  you, Marie-Jo!!!!!

Claudine documented Marie-Jo's last watercolor class at
The Upstairs Gallery in Arlington, Texas.
We had a fun day painting a Japanese lady standing on
a bridge. Then we made torn paper "Kimono" cards at the
end of class.

Christmas 2009

I painted my grandchildren's names in watercolor as
one of their gifts for Christmas.
Here are the results....

"ANDREW"
Andrew is interested in archeology and
really likes to journal. His favorite movie is Indiana Jones.

"CHRISTOPHER"
Christopher likes sports and the outdoors.
I enjoyed painting this frog and I think he
liked it.

"ELLA"
Ella likes anything pink, princesses and
Tinkerbell.

"JACK"
Jack was a monkey at
Halloween.  I should have
painted Thomas the Train.
That will be for next year.

"LUKE"
Luke loves to do whatever the big
kids are doing.  His mother calls him
her little monkey. So Luke got a monkey too.

It was fun painting the grands names.  Next year they will all
have a whole new set of interests so maybe I'll do this again.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!!!!!!

Collage Abstracts

COLLAGE ABSTRACTS
A SERIES OF CARDS MADE FROM
TORN PAPER AND MISC. OBJECTS

I made these fun little abstract collages into
greeting cards.  They are color copies of CBC abstract paintings,
torn and glued to paper and an embelishment added,
example, stars and leaves.

Come back soon to see what the next art project is.

Brazos River at Pecan Plantation

PLEIN AIR PAINT OUT,
PECAN PLANTATION
on the shore of the
BRAZOS RIVER

Several Artists got together a couple of
weeks ago to paint outdoors on the
shore of the Brazos River in Pecan Plantation
near Granbury, Texas.
It was a cold and overcast Saturday
morning. We started early about 8 am to
paint the fall foliage of golds and reds.
Even though the weather conditions weren't
perfect we enjoyed God's pretty scenery.
Below is a picture of the painting I did with the photo
of the scene below it.

Here I am bundled up with my new plein air cart that has a

own set ups and like to stand.

Cedar Creek Lake House Painting Retreat '09

CANVAS BY CANVAS
A group of artists who paint individually
and collaboratively

The CBC Artists went on a four
day painting retreat the end of October.
We stayed at a Lake House on Cedar Creek Lake.
What fun we had being focused for several days on
just painting!  We had a ton of fun laughing, talking and ate some
wonderful meals.  Artists are good cooks, too.
Some of the group went to Canton's First Monday and
shopped till they dropped bringing back bargains galore!
We were quite productive during our painting time. About 30
pieces of art were produced including drawings, oil, watercolor and
acrylic paintings, pen & ink sketches, collage and pastel.
I've posted two acrylics and a pastel I painted on the retreat.

Margie Whittington

This is an attempt to paint my grandaughter, Ella's portrait
in watercolor.  The photo I  worked from was
taken when she was three years old.  She is four now.
I always liked her wistful look.
