Wednesday Watercolor Classes

The Upstairs Art Gallery  Arlington, Texas

We painted wet into wet washes for the background around

the white geese,  simple wet washes into the bodies leaving

the white of the paper for the highlights and finishing with

the beak, eyes and webbed feet, a few grass strokes and that was it.

Our project for the day was bright, colorful and loose.

Inspired by an artist on Pinterest.

Everyone did a fantastic job.  I hope to have pictures of

student work next week to post.

"CLIFFS"

A watercolor class project,
the texture on the cliffs was
achieved by using Plastic Wrap on
wet paint.

Step One
A pencil scetch from a photo of cliffs along
a river bank

Step Two
Wet into Wet washes of blue
on the sky and the water

Step Three
Plastic wrap pulled and layed
on wet paint in the cliff areas to create texture.
The final painting at the top of this post was refined and
details added.

WATERCOLOR IN PROGRESS

This is a painting from a photograph I took on the river in

Boerne, Texas. After drawing the image, I put a blue wash on

the background and layed saran wrap on the wet wash.

After letting the saran set a minute, I lifted it and the

texture left looks like the motion in the water.

See the photo below.

After painting the water, I began painting the dark beak

and the dark on the feathers. Then I painted the

midtones and light feathers leaving the white paper for

the white high lights on the goose.

The next step, I began painting the

reflection of the goose in the water. I still have

some to do on this step.

in Arlington, Texas. I will be posting some of my students
