A Paint Out in Acton, Texas

The "Doug Club"  Paint out group met
in Acton, Texas close to Granbury at one of the group's property full
of interesting farm equipment and unique painting
subjects and a pond with a boat.  The May day was gorgeous, sunny with a
little breeze.  We all picked our spots and set up and got started painting
I was fortunate to have my husband, Phil, join me as he usually goes
to play golf on Saturdays. It was a fun day painting, meeting a
group of outdoor painters from Dallas, seeing artist friends and enjoying the beautiful
scenery and weather.

GONE FISHIN!

"GONE  FISHIN!"

It was a gorgeous Spring day and what better to do than...
take a drive in the country and go fishing!  Our nephew has friends
that have a ranch close to Midlothean, Texas with three fishing tanks.
We caught big mouth bass and a few brim.  Because it is spawning season,
we threw them back and will catch them again later on in the spring.
I caught one as big as the one Phil has in the picture below but didn't
have my camera at the time.  I do have witnesses, my nephew, brother-in-law
and Phil, my husband.  It was a glorious day and we had so much fun.
Thanks for the memories, John!

Photos of the prairie lands around the tanks we fished.

We were not alone out there.

Ya'll come back, ya hear!!!!!!

"CREATIVITY"

"Creativity is the mind at play with
the materials that it loves."~Carl Jung

A friend inspired me when she gave me a "Mini-quilted Birthday Card"
to get out my fabric and ribbon embroidery basket.
I had made a ribbon embroidered crazy quilt pillow for my
grandaughter for Christmas as shown in a prior post.
I had some scrapes from that project left and could not bring myself
to throw them away.  So I was delighted with the idea of this little quilt.
I decided to use my scrapes to make some 4" sachet angels with lavender
seeds inside for a delicate lavender smell.
Below are pictures of two angels made from the
crazy quilt scrapes and one made with raw silk and embroidered flowers.

Pictured below is my "Mini-quilt Birthday Card" and some
others that my friend has made.
@ 5"x7"

I finished another crocheted baby quilt, white with a blue edge
for a friend  who has a new grandson.

That's it for now.  I have enjoyed keeping my hands busy making these items, now
I need to get back to painting!!!!!!!

Ribbon Embroidered Pillow, Croched Blanket and A Baby Bootee!

RIBBON EMBROIDERED HEART PILLOW
A Christmas gift last December for my granddaughter, Ella.
I made this crazy quilt with ribbon embroidered flowers
on pretty white and off white fabrics including
silk, taffeta and satin. Of course I made all the
flowers PINK!  Ella has it hanging on her bed post.

A good friend had a baby girl in December.  I finished
a crocheted  baby quilt for the new arrival.   I also painted
a 5"x5" pink baby bootee with her name and birth date.

I'm working on some ribbon embroidered angel sachets
and will post them when I am finished.
Also, I am crocheting a white baby blanket for the next
friends baby or grand baby.  I am getting smarter in
my old age.  I will finish off the white blanket with a
border of blue or pink whichever I need.

Visit again soon!

Kay Granger Award Presentation

Kay Granger, United States Representative,
receiving the National Association of Manufacturers Award
presented to her by Della Williams, President of Williams Pyro Inc.
located in Fort Worth, Texas.

Kay Granger was very instrumental in having a new
battle ship named after Fort Worth, Texas.
She had the honor of christening the USS Fort Worth.
I made the collage pictured below for Phil to give to her.
Della had Phil present it to her while she was at
Williams Pyro, Inc. receiving her manufacturing award.
Phil, my husband is an employee of Williams Pyro, Inc.
The collage shows pictures of the USS Fort Worth and
Congresswoman Granger signing a plaque and also
christening the ship.  The sides of the collage have
various pictures of people who have visited with
Kay Granger in her office in Washington, DC.

This was Phil's and my thank you to Kay Granger for all
the work she has done and is doing for
Fort Worth, Texas and the USA serving
as our representative in  Congress.

Come back soon for another visit!!!

Fort Worth Stock Yards 2-18-11

Last Saturday a group of plein air artists met at
the Fort Worth Stock yards to paint and in my case draw.
It was a nice morning, warm and sunny.  We chose different locations
to paint and got started about 10 am.  I had gotten there around 9 am
and took photos and tried to decide what to paint.
The Coliseum is a great architectural structure.  I chose a small
decorative corner with an open arch at the upper left corner of the
building.  At the same location when I turned to my left I could
see Exchange and Rodeo.  I decided to draw in
my sketch book rather than paint.  I really enjoyed being outdoors and
finished a couple of drawings as seen in the photos below.

A drawing of Exchange Ave. in the Ft. Worth Stock Yards

Sketch on the left  below is of the top of the Coliseum
Sketch on the right is of an arch on the top left of the Coliseum

The following are some photos I took on Saturday morning.
Cowboys and cowgirls on horseback, a cattle drive through the street,
Molly the Trolley, a stagecoach plus other photos. There was a
petting pen for children to feed the animals.  Lots of goats and llamas and
a tiny baby goat that was so cute. The artists met
at Risky's BBQ and had lunch.  Some painted more
in the afternoon, others headed home.
It was a very enjoyable day.

Come back soon for another visit!
