CUCHARA CHAPEL
CUCHARA, COLORADO

August, 2008

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,
From whence cometh my help.

Psalm 121; 1

I did a plein air drawing of the church on
Sunday afternoon sitting outside in the cool
Colorado weather, August 3, 2008.

We saw several bear around Blue Lake where we fished
and in the valley along a stream, one was eating berries.

Hopefully you will see some paintings
from these wonderful views of
Colorado.

Come back soon to see what is being
painted on a canvas, wall or paper!

OPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION
PRESIDENTS CLUB LUNCHEON

JULY 2, 2008

GAYLORD TEXAN
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS

I was honored to be invited to the President's Club luncheon of the Optimist International Foundation to help in the unveiling of the painting I did for their 2008-2009 fundraiser. As each Optimist Club around the US and Canada donate to the Foundation, the club receives a signed and numbered print of the painting.

I gave a short speech thanking the foundation for the opportunity
of working with Judi Smith, the OIF Director, and others the last four years that I have done their painting for the fund raisers.

Here is the painting covered before

the unveiling and I am speaking

to a room of about 160+ people.

The new presidents were

introduced, one is from

Canada and the other

The Monogram matches the bedding for a special baby boy.
All in blue, lavender and green stripes accented by
a green polka dot wall.

The baby's crib will go under the monogram of his initials.

A scripture over the baby's closet reads...

Sons are a heritage from the Lord
Children a reward from Him.

" IN CONCERT "

24" x 30"

Oil on Canvas

Painted by Margie Whittington

A friend from high school which has been
forty+ years ago, asked me to do this portrait of
her when she was twelve years old at a piano recital.
The photo that the painting was done from was a black and
white with no color and some very dark areas.
She described the colors and the details of the photo and
this is what I painted.

It was a challenge and I am hoping my friend will be pleased
with the finished portrait.
Shhhh, she hasn't seen it yet. Her birthday is in August and I
think she has given up on me ever getting it finished.

A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE !

Paint Waxahachie

PAINT WAXAHACHIE !
This is the third year for a week long paint out in
Waxahachie. Artists have eight days to paint in and around
the Waxahachie square. The court house, shops, an old
feed store, the Gezendaner park and many
gingerbread houses are among
the interesting subjects to pick from to paint.
On the last two days of the paint out,
Saturday and Sunday, June 7 and 8
all the paintings done during the time period and painted on
location are hung for a juried show with cash awards
and on sale to the public.
On Friday there is a "Quick Draw". Each artist
participating has 90 minutes to complete a painting
around the downtown court house area.
At "high noon" 12 o'clock there will be a live auction of these
Quick Draw Paintings.
If you want to get outside this weekend, come to Waxahachie and see
the art along with the Gingerbread Trail of beautiful old homes in
picturesque Waxahachie, Texas.

PRESLEY'S NURSERY

"FOR THIS CHILD I HAVE PRAYED"
This is the scripture over the crib of a special baby girl.
Her parents have gone through
a lot and waited along time
to welcome this precious gift from God.
I had just chalked the design on the wall and asked the Mom to
OK it and she started crying. I have never had that
experience before. She was so excited about the nursury painting.
She and her husband had painted all the walls and the
stripes below the chair railing. It was so pretty even before I added
the scripture over the bed and the monogram
on the wall.

Flowers to match the valance were
added at the base of one wall.

A little white bunny with a pink nose and big blue eyes was added at the base of the wall by the window to complete the whimsical pink and green garden nursery.

The design and colors of the paintings were taken from the valance and the bedding.

Visit again soon to see what the next painting will be, either on a wall, canvas or paper!

WHIMSICAL ANGELS ah la NANCY

Today a couple of my artists friends and I got together
to paint. We painted angels the way another artist friend,
Nancy showed some of the Canvas by Canvas
group. A loose painting technique using washes of
color as a base then adding a simple figure and stamping
designs on the background. It was a fun day spent
painting, listening to good music and enjoying time
with friends.

Daisy is so cute with one green eye and one blue eye.
These three beauties keep things lively
in their home.

WILLOW CITY LOOP
8 X 10
Oil on Canvas

A group of painters
called Outdoor Painters Society
painted in and around the Fredericksburg, Texas
area a couple of weekends ago in April. It was great fun
to go outside on location to paint the georgeous landscapes
of the hill country.

One especially pretty area is Willow CityLoop
a short drive to the north of Fredericksburg.
The painting below
is the entrance to a home on the loop. The
entrance was so interesting with the rock
formations and flowers. Everything was
budding out in rich dark greens and bright lime greens.

It is "God's Country" to quote a gentelman
who lives on Willow City Loop.

WILLOW CITY LOOP

There will be a few more paintings to come when I finish them.
One is a Mesquite tree just blooming. The other is a scene along the
Pedernalis River.
Come back soon to view the finished paintings.

Kyleigh's Farm

KYLEIGH'S FARM

Kyleigh is a 5 year old with a love of animals. She has lots of stuffed animals in her room. Now she has a mural on her bedroom wall with horses, ducks, lambs, kittens and a dog.
The mural was a birthday present from her parents.
Kyleigh was so excited. She would peek in every so often to see what was appearing on her wall. She would report to her mom and say now there are horses on my wall!!!!
Her mom asked her when the mural was finished which animal was her favorite. Kyleigh said she couldn't choose, she loved them all.

Kyleigh's name is painted over the window with butterflies flying over to the mural and some on the end of the mural. Butterflies are one of her favorite things in addition to all the animals.

Here are some close up photos of the animals on Kyleigh'sWall. Her brother asked me if the dog was a sheep dog?I said sure he can be a sheep dog herding a black and white lamb. There is a momma rabbit and her bunnies, a sleeping kitty and a kitten playing with one of the baby ducks. A momma duck and her ducklings. A mare and her colt and horses grazing in the background as the sun is setting in the distance.
