Kyleigh's Farm

KYLEIGH'S FARM

Kyleigh is a 5 year old with a love of animals. She has lots of stuffed animals in her room. Now she has a mural on her bedroom wall with horses, ducks, lambs, kittens and a dog.
The mural was a birthday present from her parents.
Kyleigh was so excited. She would peek in every so often to see what was appearing on her wall. She would report to her mom and say now there are horses on my wall!!!!
Her mom asked her when the mural was finished which animal was her favorite. Kyleigh said she couldn't choose, she loved them all.

Kyleigh's name is painted over the window with butterflies flying over to the mural and some on the end of the mural. Butterflies are one of her favorite things in addition to all the animals.

Here are some close up photos of the animals on Kyleigh'sWall. Her brother asked me if the dog was a sheep dog?I said sure he can be a sheep dog herding a black and white lamb. There is a momma rabbit and her bunnies, a sleeping kitty and a kitten playing with one of the baby ducks. A momma duck and her ducklings. A mare and her colt and horses grazing in the background as the sun is setting in the distance.

"Mick" Portrait of a Lab

"Mick"
A Chocolate Labrador Retriever
11" x 14"
Acrylic on Canvas
Painted by Margie Whittington

This is a portrait that I just finished for a friend. Mick looks like a very happy dog. I enjoy painting animal portraits. I paint from a photograph of the pet and always like to know their name while I am painting. I feel like I get to know them by the time I am finished with the portrait.

Friday Acrylic Class FUN WITH FLOWERS

FUN WITH FLOWERS

Vern is a fellow artist and teacher at the Upstairs Gallery. He painted a lovely floral of a purple bouquet of flowers. My students have admired the painting for weeks. We used it as our "Do-From" (image we paint from) last Friday in acrylic class. All our paintings are "from the style of Vern Johnson" but they all turned out different as you will see in the photos below of each individuals interpretation of the same subject.

Cathy used a rich palette of blues and purples to paint the bouquet. She has a soft misty touch on the edges of the flowers.

Claire chose a blue palette to render her basket full of flowers.

Kathy painted a lovely basket with purple and blue flowers.

Joan painted a basket full of pink and red roses with small white flowers scattered in.

Marilyn always has a very colorful palette full of fun and motion.

Sally also painted a very colorful spring bouquet. There is a lovely yellow glow in the background.

Yawapa painted on a 16 x 20 canvas. Her pretty floral is in a woven basket.

2008 Watercolor Classes Begin!

The watercolor class at the Fort Worth Woman's Club
on Pennsylvania Avenue in Fort Worth
began this last Monday afternoon.

Everyone was excited about getting back to painting after the holidays. It takes everyone a little time to visit and settle in to get started painting. All the ladies are working toward our Winter Show which will be held at the Frost Bank on Hulen Drive this February.

The Upstairs Gallery in Arlington
started classes this week, too.
It is like a reunion after the holidays seeing everyone
and hearing about what has been going on
the past 2 months during our break.
Today we eased back into watercolor with simple paintings of
radishes, watermelons and peppers.

The 11 x 15 watercolor paper was divided into 9 sections.

After a few quick drawings, each

subject was painted with

a wet into wet technique, let dry and details added.

This is another version of the radishes, peppers
and watermelons done in strong colors with acrylic paints
instead of watercolors.

You can see how different these approaches are.
One day, painting with a friend using wild and crazy colors,
the next day in class using quieter more realistic colors.
Painting both of these paintings was great fun
and it felt good to be painting again.

A Bi-Plane for Jacob

Jacob is not due till January but his nursery is complete and waiting for his arrival. The nursery is decorated in vintage airplanes and airplane memorabilia. I added a bi-plane on the wall above his crib. The room is done in warm tones of beige, tans, browns and black. The wall is painted a warm golden tan.

When it came time to add the name to the banner flying behind the plane, Mom and Dad had not officially decided on the name. They had been toying with the name, Jacob. So unless they change their minds between now and the due date, Jacob is painted on the banner flying high above the crib.

Sunday, a ferocious watch dog (just kidding), kept me
company while I painted in Jacob's nursery. She was
fun to be with. Sunday supervised and kept a close
watch on me while painting in the baby's nursery.
I'm sure she will keep a watch over Jacob when
he takes over his nursery.

!!!!!! A REMINDER !!!!!

This girls room is done in hot pinks, zebra print
and green, black, pink and white stripes.
To accent her room,
part of the shelf has hot pink with black zebra stripes

The mirror is hot pink with black zebra stripes to match the shelf. The trash receptacle and the drawer knobs from the dresser are all done in hot pink and the knobs have the black stripes.

Here is a close up of the trash receptacle and the drawer knobs. Pretty cool for

ODDS AND ENDS - RECENT ART PROJECTS

I haven't been painting murals lately, but I have been busy with several art projects.

This fall sign painting of Psalm 100: 4 with pumpkin motifs and in autumn colors was painted for a display at Dallas Baptist University.

I have been working on a calligraphy job of addressing 250 wedding envelopes for a wedding in January, 2008. The invitations are being mailed before Thanksgiving. This takes a steady hand and a lot of quiet uninterrupted time.

Williams Pyro Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas established a fund for injured firemen and their families several years ago. An annual chili cook-off at the Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine brings in many contributions for this important fund. This boot was a prize for the first place, Novice division in the "Stop, Drop and Roll Chili Cook-Off" I painted the hot chili motif and the lettering on the real fireman's boot.

A 6" x 6" Baby Boy Bootee

This small acrylic painting was painted for a new baby boy. To personalize the little painting, the baby's name and birth date were added.

This group of Santa Baby 4"x4" paintings were done for a friend. They illustrate the Christmas song,"Santa Baby". Christmas is right around the corner. These little canvases are wrap around canvases and need no framing. They are ready to set on a fireplace mantle or hang on the wall to decorate and add Christmas Cheer!
